Grand opening season of my backyard

HELLO May!  Yay, spring is finally here!

With it come a wonderful time to celebrate fresh the fresh colorful blooms, my favorite cherry blossoms and last but not least, the start of patio season we have all been waiting for.  If you know me, nowadays I only drink for special occasions.  Since it’s the start of spring and my birthday week, I’m making an exception!  My roommate has an annual Ketucky Derby party the first weekend of May so this afternoon we were hanging in our backyard getting it ready for the season.  Today I cracked open a bottle of Comsi Comsa with my roommate and we both enjoyed the sun and hanging out under a canopy of fragrant flowers.

A friend sent me this bottle of Sparkling Apple Wine so today was the perfect time to give it a try.  The bottle has a very chic classic design, with the bottle being black it works with all sorts of decor.  Kept it low key by using mason jars.  One of the reasons why I like using mason jars (especially outdoors, is because I can put a plastic lid on it when I’m just talking and hanging out, that way no bugs or nasties will drop into my glass)

I sipped this sparkling wine this afternoon and snacked on almonds and enjoyed the fragrant aroma of magnolia flowers from my backyard:)  What a perfect afternoon!

When it comes to food and beverage products, I try to stick to locally grown produce whenever possible. It’s better for the environment and has much less of a carbon footprint.  I was happy to find that Comsi Comsa is locally produced in the Catskills region of upstate NY.  Their all-natural apple-based sparkling wine is made by fermenting apple with champagne yeast.  This region grows over 20 types of apples growing in surrounding orchards which they use a special combination of to produce their recipe.

I’ve never had a apple sparkling wine before and to my surprise found that it is very sweet and of delicious.  It has a fragrant aroma of the apples that come thru and creates a crisp, very fresh and tasty flavor which I sipped in small amounts and feel is perfect sweet treat refresher not only for spring time but can be enjoyed year round paired with different dishes and snacks.

Enjoying a great May day in my backyard patio

I love using mason jars for everything

My Experience with EduPlated App

I was invited to try the EduPlated app and write my feedback.

How it works:

On the EduPlated app, you are matched up with a Registered Dietitian (RDNs) who supports you various with varying health goals depending on the individual ranging from weight loss, family meal prep, sports nutrition, aiding with healthy active lifestyles, dealing with medical concerns and such as diabetes or other health issues.

I have over the years learned to understand my body so generally I know what to feed it and nourish myself.  The problem I had addressed to Jennifer was that I was not sure if I am eating enough and getting the proper amount of nutrition as I change my physical activity and don’t have a set schedule.

She suggested I work on my macronutrients and micronutrients and gave me a breakdown of the percentages I should target.  Also, she has also been working with me to give me sample meal plans of  what I should eat out of the foods I normally enjoy on different days depending on my work out schedule.

What I love the most about the app is how you can easily you can be interacting with your RDN!   –  It’s awesome that they pair you up with the right dietitian according to your goals and needs.  When it came to chatting, I was able to get a response fairly quickly.  It is so simple, all you have to do is CHAT!  I was chatting to my RDN from the grocery store.  On this app, you have access to unlimited chatting with y our RDN from anytime and anywhere.

  • can send message directly to my RDN and From the chat window
  • can send photos of your meal and snacks that you have eaten that day.
  • can share any web links, menus other files for RDN to refer to.So far it is been a great experience and think this is a brilliant idea.  My final thoughts?  It’s an easy way to get the best of both worlds, technology and a human connection at the ease of your fingertips to be able to help you with questions to make smarter nutrition decisions.
